Yang Ming is expanding its fleet with a major order from Hanwha Ocean: seven ammonia-ready, LNG/dual-fuel container ships of 15,900 TEU. This series adds ammonia readiness and 900 TEU more capacity than earlier plans. Deliveries are scheduled for 2028 and 2029. Yang Ming already has five 15,500 TEU ships on order, expected to start arriving in 2026.

Hengli Heavy Industries will build four 6,000 TEU vessels, with an option for four more, for non-operating owner Eastern Pacific. Deliveries are set between late 2027 and 2028, while additional orders at China Merchants Industry Yangzhou remain unconfirmed.

Minerva Shipping confirmed a second batch of two 1,800 TEU ships with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, bringing its total at the yard to four. Two more ships of the same size will be constructed by Huanghai Shipbuilding.

Meanwhile, Chartworld’s earlier letter of intent with SUMEC Marine’s New Dayan yard for two 3,100 TEU ships has now become a confirmed order, including two options.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced four new vessels for its HD Hyundai Samho yard, with deliveries planned for Q3 2028. Reports suggest these could be 8,000–9,000 TEU ships.

Several new entrants are joining the containership sector. Anhui Zhongxin Funeng Shipping of China ordered four 3,000 TEU ships from Jiangsu Dayang Offshore Equipment for delivery in 2027–28. Fujian Lida Group and Hong Kong’s Quantong Group signed with Kouan Shipbuilding for two 3,300 TEU vessels. Notably, Kouan has been largely inactive, with its last order in 2023 for two 2,700 TEU ships.

The wave of new orders highlights growing investment in larger, environmentally capable vessels and reflects both established carriers and new players preparing for the next phase of global shipping growth.
