Port of Brisbane advances sustainable growth for Queensland

Port of Brisbane has published its 2024/25 Sustainability Report, emphasizing the Port’s essential role in facilitating trade, supporting employment, and driving Queensland’s economy while progressing its sustainability initiatives.

CEO Neil Stephens stated the report demonstrates PBPL’s commitment to ensuring ongoing Port growth and development remains both responsible and resilient saying that the Port of Brisbane will remain a crucial enabler of this growth and prosperity through facilitating trade, delivering infrastructure, and planning for the future to provide lasting value for Queensland.

Overall, 2024/25 represented a significant year for the Port of Brisbane, including robust trade performance with overall tonnage increasing 7.8% to 34.9 million tonnes and another record year for containers, reaching 1.62 million TEUs.

Mr Stephens acknowledged PBPL employees along with customers and stakeholders for supporting the Port’s sustainability efforts.

Key FY25 achievements include:

  • Fulfilled FY25 commitments for our US$500 million Sustainability Linked Loan connected to KPIs across three key areas including emissions reductions, biodiversity, and mental health first aid
  • Maintained Net Zero Emissions scope 1 and 2 (with offsets)
  • Retained Advanced Workplace Recognition status by Mental Health First Aid Australia
  • Processed a record 1.62 million TEUs through the Port
  • Overall tonnage reached 34.9 million, increasing 7.8% from last year
  • Over US$212 million invested in port infrastructure and property development
  • Released Vision 2060 – an aspirational roadmap for the Port in 2060
  • Advanced the Channel Enhancement Project through the Environmental Impact Statement process
  • Completed 7 customer developments (new and expanded facilities), including finishing construction of our first facility targeting a 6-Star Green Star rating
  • Rehabilitated 1.65ha of highly valuable port environmental land
  • Advanced our ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan.
