Wah Kwong NatPower Holdings (WK NatPower) and Shandong Port Group (SPG) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance large-scale shore power and ship electrification projects. The collaboration begins at Qingdao Port International, one of the world’s most automated terminals, and aims to create global green shipping corridors connecting China and Europe.
The partnership focuses on expanding cold ironing at berth, pioneering new propulsion charging solutions, and sharing technology and expertise between SPG’s ports and WK NatPower’s international clean energy projects. By integrating their networks, the companies aim to deliver scalable, commercially viable solutions that reduce reliance on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions across the maritime industry.
WK NatPower and SPG will also collaborate on joint projects in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Europe, providing integrated, one-stop shore power services for shipping clients. Vincent Ni, WK NatPower General Manager, described the alliance as “a major step in decarbonising global supply chains,” while Stefano D.M. Sommadossi, CEO of NatPower Marine UK, highlighted its potential to turn “ambition into action” by building the infrastructure for sustainable shipping.
Qingdao Port International General Manager Zhang Baohua said the partnership strengthens green port initiatives and positions Qingdao as a leading international shipping centre. Together, WK NatPower and SPG are taking a significant step toward powering the next era of low-emission global shipping.
