ABB will supply the full electric power and propulsion system for Singapore’s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). The contract was awarded by South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean and continues a long-running collaboration between the two companies.
The FSRU will include ABB’s medium-voltage generator, 6.6kV switchboards, propulsion motor, transformer, and drive. ABB will also provide its remote control, diagnostics, condition monitoring, and enhanced power protection system.
The vessel will be delivered to owner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) in 2027 and will operate under long-term charter for Singapore LNG Corporation. Moored at Jurong Port, the terminal will connect to Singapore’s gas network in 2030.
With a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters, the FSRU will boost Singapore’s LNG import capacity by 50% compared with the existing Jurong terminal. Singapore LNG has signed contracts to process five million tons per year through the new floating facility.
“This project shows our shared commitment to innovation, reliability, and sustainability,” said Rune Braastad, Global Business Line Manager, Marine Systems at ABB. “It is ABB’s latest contribution to Singapore’s position as a major LNG hub in Asia.”
Hanwha Ocean is one of the world’s top FSRU builders and has delivered nearly a quarter of the global gas fleet.
