Rijeka Gateway has officially started operations. The terminal welcomed its first commercial vessel, Al Jasrah.
The ship is 368 meters long and 51 meters wide. It arrived from Port Said, Egypt, on the busy Asia–Europe route.
This marks a major milestone for the port. Rijeka Gateway is one of Europe’s most modern and sustainable container terminals.
“This is a historic moment for Rijeka and for Croatia,” said a Rijeka Gateway spokesperson. “We are proud to begin serving our customers.”
The terminal features advanced equipment and green technology. It is designed to cut emissions and speed up operations.
Rijeka Gateway will handle a large share of Adriatic container traffic. Its location gives Central and Eastern Europe a faster, more efficient trade route.
The project is expected to create jobs and attract investment. Local businesses and logistics operators are preparing for a surge in activity.
With Al Jasrah’s arrival, Rijeka Gateway is ready to welcome more ships in the weeks ahead.
