The Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of Grande Auckland, the second of seven PCTC (Pure Car & Truck Carrier) vessels built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading Company. The handover took place in Shanghai on September 9, 2025.
The 200-meter vessel has a beam of 38 meters and a gross tonnage of 77,500 tons. She can carry 9,241 CEU and has four decks for vehicles, SUVs, vans, heavy loads up to 250 tons, and cargo up to 6.5 meters high.
Grande Auckland’s MAN B&W 7S60 ME-C10.6-HPSCR engine meets Tier II–III emissions standards. Optimized design and advanced technology cut CO₂ emissions per cargo by up to 50% compared to older PCTCs.
The vessel has been awarded Ammonia Ready class notation by RINA. She can also use cold ironing to draw shore-side electricity while in port.
Grande Auckland will begin her maiden Asia–Europe voyage in 2025. She will carry 4,900 vehicles and 3,300 linear meters of rolling cargo, calling at ports from Shanghai and Lianyungang to Agadir, Vigo, Antwerp, Southampton, La Réunion, Yokohama, Toyohashi, and Masan.
The Grimaldi Group has 14 more Ammonia Ready PCTCs on order for delivery between 2025 and 2027, further strengthening Asia–Europe maritime connections.
