Höegh Autoliners christened its sixth Aurora-Class vessel, Höegh Moonlight, at Sweden’s Port of Gothenburg today. Jenny Westermark from Volvo Group sponsored the ship. She smashed the ceremonial champagne bottle. Sustainable Volvo cargo stole the show.

The Höegh Moonlight holds 9,100 car equivalent units. It joins Höegh’s 12 next-generation car and truck carriers. These Aurora-Class ships drive the company’s zero-emissions goal by 2040. The vessel flies the Norwegian flag. DNV classes it. Its sister, Höegh Sunrise, was named in Japan last June.

CEO Andreas Enger hailed the ship’s green impact. “Höegh Moonlight proves we’re decarbonizing now,” he said. He thanked Westermark for her role. Westermark praised their partnership. “We’re driving real change together,” she said.

Eco-Friendly Innovation

The Aurora-Class leads in green shipping. The first eight vessels use LNG dual-fuel engines. They’re ready for ammonia with strong decks and a TGE Marine tank. Four ships arriving in 2027 will run on ammonia from day one. LNG-powered ships cut emissions by 58% per car.

COO Sebjørn Dahl lauded the fleet’s progress. “Höegh Moonlight shows ambition in action,” he said. “We’re building a cleaner future with our team.” CSO Oskar Orstadius celebrated partnerships. “This event strengthens our sustainable transport goals,” he said. He thanked Scandinavian Shipping and Logistics, Höegh’s agent for 20 years.

Gothenburg’s Green Push

The Port of Gothenburg supports Swedish trade. CEO Göran Eriksson praised Höegh’s eco-friendly ships. “They make trade greener,” he said. The port targets a 70% emissions cut by 2030. It invests in shoreside power, green corridors, and alternative fuels. Höegh’s work aligns with this vision.

The Höegh Moonlight ceremony highlights sustainability and global trade.
