Greek bulker and tanker owner Centrofin is expanding its presence in the dry segment with a pair of kamsarmax newbuildings added to the orderbook.
The Dimitris Procopiou-led company has upped its newbuilding programme at China’s Hengli Heavy Industry to eight 82,000 dwt units, following the initial order for six firm vessels.
The company had been linked to an initial order of six ships at the yard in late 2024, suggesting it has quietly added two more hulls since then. All of the newbuilds are scheduled to deliver in 2026.
The move builds on Centrofin’s broader strategy of renewing and diversifying its fleet, which now includes a parallel investment in the tanker segment. The company is bolstering its footprint in the wet market with four 158,000 dwt suezmax newbuildings booked at South Korean yard Samsung Heavy Industries, and deliveries set to close by December 2028.
According to its latest fleet update, Athens-based Centrofin is currently overseeing a fleet of 25 tankers and 19 bulk carriers, operated through Marine Trust and Trust Bulkers, respectively, with an additional 12-vessel newbuilding programme underway.
