Wah Kwong is expanding its dry bulk fleet, with four ultramax newbuilds linked to the Hong Kong-based owner at China’s Wuhu Shipyard.
According to shipbuilding sources, the company has agreed to a deal worth around $132m for the 64,000 dwt quartet, with deliveries scheduled for 2028.
The reported order follows Wah Kwong’s previous ultramax newbuild commitment at New Dayang Shipbuilding in 2024 for four 64,000 dwt vessels at around $35m each, building on a similar series placed in 2021.
Wah Kwong, which currently owns and operates over 40 vessels and manages an additional 90 ships across various segments, has been active in fleet renewal and expansion across both wet and dry sectors.
Last month, the company signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Wuhu, the largest builder in Anhui province, and its affiliated entities, including Yingxing Financial Leasing and Anhui Haizhi Equipment Research Institute—a move that may have paved the way for the latest order.
