Brokers’ sources tell Splash that Japanese owner Nissen Shipping has let go of one of its many modern capes, selling the 2020-built Bulk Ginza—a 182,900 dwt, Imabari-built cape—for just under $64m. The ship is noted to have been sold on a forward delivery basis and will be delivered to its new owner at the end of the year.
Nissen has 21 young capes in its stable, of which 19 are built in Japan, boasting a fleet average age of just four years.
Sales registers and broker sources tie Genco Shipping and Trading to the deal. If confirmed, this will be Genco’s first purchase since October last year. Then it added an eight-year-old cape, then named Stella Home, for $47.5m.
The last Japanese-built comparable deal was sealed in December 2023. Then Norden added a ship named Capt Tasos, a similarly sized Namura-built cape. This 2023-built cape changed ownership for $70.5m; the seller at the time was Transmed.
