The Port of Savannah moved 500,900 twenty-foot equivalent units in May 2025, marking the third consecutive month it surpassed the half-million TEU milestone.

The figure reflects a 2.2% year-over-year increase, or 10,565 additional TEUs, compared to May 2024. May 2025 stands as Savannah’s second busiest May ever, trailing only May 2022, which saw volumes near 519,400 TEUs.

Griff Lynch, President and CEO of the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) noted that GPA has strategically increased terminal capacity to better meet evolving customer needs. A key development is the Garden City Terminal West, designed specifically for long-term import and export cargo storage, offering shippers increased flexibility in managing supply chain fluctuations.

Kent Fountain, GPA Board Chairman highlighted that in the past ten years alone, they have been invested $3.2 billion into infrastructure that supports Georgia’s economic vitality.

For the 2025 fiscal year to date (July 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025), Savannah has handled 5.3 million TEUs, reflecting a 10.3% increase or 493,635 TEUs compared to the same period in fiscal 2024.
