ORBCOMM has announced the launch of CrewView, an onboard visibility solution designed to give vessel crews real-time access to data from smart refrigerated and dry containers while at sea.

As the latest addition to ORBCOMM’s suite of supply chain visibility tools, CrewView closes a longstanding gap in maritime container monitoring by enabling continuous oversight even during ocean transit.

Sameer Agrawal, CEO of ORBCOMM, said CrewView boosts crew efficiency, reduces spoilage, enhances safety, and provides much-needed transparency for both shipboard teams and shoreside managers.

The system delivers instant SMS alerts directly to crew members’ mobile devices via ORBCOMM-enabled smart containers, even without satellite connectivity. It supports seamless vessel-to-shore data sharing and displays detailed container locations using interactive bay, row, and tier maps on the ORBCOMM Maritime platform. In addition, open APIs allow integration with third-party platforms and sensors for comprehensive alerting capabilities.

The solution has already undergone successful trials with major international shipping lines, demonstrating significant improvements in onboard response time and cargo protection.

CrewView builds upon technology developed by Vobal Technologies, whose assets were acquired by ORBCOMM in May 2025.
