TCP, the operator of Brazil’s Paranaguá Container Terminal, has claimed the top spot for container handling in the country’s Southern Region in the first quarter of 2025.

According to the latest Waterway Statistics report by the National Waterway Transportation Agency, TCP also climbed to second place in container throughput nationwide among Brazilian port operators.

TCP reported a total of 372,446 TEUs, translating to a first-quarter record and a 5.4% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Among Brazilian terminals, TCP currently operates the country’s largest fleet of port equipment, offers the highest number of maritime services, and manages the largest reefer yard in South America, now totaling 5,268 plugs, already surpassing forecasted investments by competitors in this segment.

The first quarter builds on a strong 2024, during which TCP handled a record 1.56 million TEUs, becoming the third Brazilian terminal to exceed the 1.5 million mark in annual container throughput.

TCP also solidified its position as the national leader in meat and frozen food exports. The terminal handled a record 35,809 reefer containers in the first quarter, a 17% year-on-year increase, capturing a 40.3% market share in this segment. March alone saw 13,890 reefer containers, representing a 14% growth over the previous monthly record set in June 2024.

TCP’s growth is backed by a robust investment strategy totaling over US$65 million between 2022 and 2024. The operator has also begun decarbonizing its operations, as three RTGs were converted to electric power as part of a pilot program, cutting CO₂ emissions by 97% per machine.

As of 2025, TCP holds the largest number of weekly shipping services in Brazil, with 24 routes spanning long-haul and coastal shipping. This expansion was evident in 2024, when 992 vessels docked at the terminal, translating to a 19% increase from 2023.
