The Valencia Port Authority’s Statistical Bulletin for August shows a notable rise in Spanish exports through Valenciaport.

This growth is driven by both containerised goods, which increased by 18.85%, and non-containerised and bulk goods, which rose by 4.73%.

Among the containerised exports, wood and cork saw a sharp increase of 85%, while beverages grew by 25% and foodstuffs by 23.7%. For non-containerised goods, non-metallic minerals like gypsum, clays, and kaolin surged by 307%, fertilisers increased by 24.7%, and bulk beverages rose by 10%.

Despite this temporary surge, the overall trend over the last 12 months remains stable, with a slight decline of 0.65% compared to the previous year. From January to August 2024, however, exports have shown a modest growth of 1.38%.

Looking at year-on-year figures, tonnage traffic grew by 6.76%, and container traffic saw an 11.58% rise. While part of the growth can be attributed to goods in transit, increased trade with key partners like China, the United States, Italy, and Turkey has also contributed.

So far in 2024, Valenciaport has handled over 16 million tonnes with these countries (5.29 million with China, 4.63 million with Italy, 3.63 million with the United States, and 2.93 million with Turkey). The port’s growing role as a global import/export and transhipment hub has also spurred significant increases in trade with Greece (+61.77%) and Saudi Arabia (+50.39%).

In terms of regional growth, the Red Sea, the Baltic countries, and the Mediterranean nations have seen the highest increases between January and August. Container traffic with Red Sea ports rose by 65.36%, with the Baltic countries by 59.71%, and with Mediterranean countries by 34.32%.

Overall, from January to August 2024, 53,911,681 tonnes of goods moved through the Port Authority of Valencia’s terminals—a 5.67% increase from the previous year. This includes 4,164,803 tonnes of bulk cargo, 10,367,803 tonnes of non-containerised general cargo, and 39,379,075 tonnes of containerised cargo.
