SC Ports announced cargo handling results for April.

In April, the Port of Charleston handled 215,804 TEUs and 118,215 pier containers, maintaining steady performance compared to the same month last year.

This marks a period of stability following two consecutive months of container volume growth.

However, vehicle imports and exports at the port totaled 12,339 units, reflecting a 32% decline year-over-year, as the automotive sector continues to face broader market challenges.

On a positive note, rail cargo continues to show strong performance across South Carolina Ports’ inland network.

Inland Port Greer recorded its highest April on record, with 18,394 rail moves, a 14% increase over April 2024.

Inland Port Dillon moved 4,213 rail containers in April. Although this represents an 11% year-over-year decrease, it marks the first month this fiscal year where Dillon surpassed 4,000 moves, signaling renewed momentum.

Also, SC Ports is preparing to significantly enhance its intermodal capabilities with the upcoming Navy Base Intermodal Facility (NBIF) near the Port of Charleston.

The facility, currently under construction, will be served by both CSX and Norfolk Southern, and will provide seamless connections to Inland Ports Greer and Dillon.
