Ecuador’s Terminal Portuario de Guayaquil (TPG) handled the 13,700 TEU container ship ONE Sparkle for the first time, as part of the vessel’s inaugural voyage through Latin America.

This call strengthens the partnership between TPG and Singapore-based shipping line Ocean Network Express (ONE).

ONE Sparkle represents a new generation of ships designed for energy efficiency and sustainable maritime transport. It is the first of 19 vessels that the company will incorporate into its global fleet, featuring technologies that enable operations with methanol and ammonia and systems that reduce emissions through shore power connectivity.

Ronny Zúñiga, General Manager of ONE Ecuador, emphasized that the ONE Sparkle represents the company’s commitment to sustainable solutions for international trade. He also highlighted the vessel’s eco-friendly design and ability to support over 2,500 refrigerated container connections.

During its call in Guayaquil, the vessel will handle approximately 5,000 container moves, including nearly 1,000 refrigerated export containers.

TPG’s General Manager, Luisenrique Navas, noted that this inaugural call reflects ONE’s trust in the terminal’s services and capacity to accommodate vessels of this size. Navas also underscored the alignment of values between the shipping line and the terminal: “At TPG, we celebrate and share the vision of protecting and preserving the environment. We firmly believe that the growth of the port sector must go hand in hand with respect for the natural environment. That’s why we’ve adopted an approach that combines operational efficiency, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability.”

ONE Sparkle is part of the AX3 service, which connects key Pacific ports, with stops in Ensenada, Manzanillo, and Lázaro Cárdenas (Mexico); Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala); Buenaventura (Colombia); Callao (Peru); Guayaquil (Ecuador); and Rodman (Panama).
