Thurrock Council has approved a new 10-year Local Development Order (LDO) to facilitate continued growth and job creation at DP World’s London Gateway Logistics Park.

The LDO streamlines the planning process for the Park’s customers, ensuring that all new construction projects meet the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ standard.

Under this framework, new builds receive final approval within 28 days, allowing for swift transitions from lease agreements to construction and operational readiness.

As the UK’s largest facility of its kind, the Park offers exceptional connectivity to key markets. Having already developed half of its 836,127 m² site, the 10-year extension will support the full utilisation of the remaining space. In early 2025, the Park welcomed its first two manufacturing tenants, Destiny Entertainment and Ranson, into its cutting-edge new facilities.

Alan Holland, CΕΟ of DP World London Gateway Logistics Park, stated: “Our new 10-year Local Development Order, combined with our fantastic access to transport connections and important markets, makes London Gateway Logistics Park well placed to continue our rapid growth.”

Additionally, as part of the government-backed Thames Freeport, established in 2021, tenants benefit from significant financial incentives, including relief on business rates, stamp duty, and national insurance contributions.

The initial 10-year LDO, implemented in 2013, led to the construction of 17 modern facilities for 16 businesses, adding over 371,612 m² of space and generating 1,500 permanent jobs.

Beyond its hubs at Southampton and London Gateway, DP World also provides logistics, forwarding, and European transport services, seamlessly integrating them into its global network. Operating in 78 countries, DP World manages 10% of the world’s containerised trade.

Cllr Lee Watson, Cabinet Member for Good Growth, Thurrock Council, commented: “The new LDO will help ensure that development of the site can continue, in a way that benefits the local economy and local people. It will help pave the way for inward investment which should help create good local jobs and bring other economic benefits to the borough.”
