The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) and the Harbor Police Department (HPD) announced the implementation of enhanced security measures and upgraded technology at its Maritime Security Operations Center (MSOC).

These advancements, introduced ahead of Super Bowl LIX which took place in New Orleans on 10 February, played a key role in bolstering security for the event and will continue to enhance HPD’s emergency response capabilities.

The MSOC is equipped with advanced surveillance and communications systems, facilitating operational coordination and critical information-sharing with the US Coast Guard (USCG) and other public safety agencies.

Designed to address current security threats while remaining adaptable to future challenges, the upgraded system aligns with the cybersecurity priorities established by the USCG Sector New Orleans Captain of the Port.

Furthermore, Port NOLA remains a vital partner in national security efforts, working closely with local, state, and federal agencies to uphold the highest standards of safety and preparedness across its facilities and operations.

“Protecting critical infrastructure and the safety of our surrounding communities are HPD’s top priorities. The Harbor Police Department and its dedicated officers were proud to coordinate with local, state and federal partners as visitors from all over the world travelled to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. Those proactive security initiatives will continue in our ongoing commitment to public safety,” stated Melanie Montroll, HPD Chief.

Since 2022, Port NOLA has received more than US$2.5 billion in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through its Port Security Grant Program to enhance the protection of critical port infrastructure against terrorism, major disasters, and other emergencies.
