Dutch surveyor Fugro has acquired German firm EOMAP, a company which uses satellite earth observation for mapping and monitoring marine and freshwater environments.
EOMAP has been pioneering this technology since 2006. The company has recorded a revenue of around €5m ($5.2m) for 2024.
According to Fugro, the market for earth observation solutions is growing due to increasing environmental regulations and the recognition of marine ecosystems’ role in our planet’s health.
Over the years, EOMAP has been a key partner in many of Fugro’s climate adaptation and nature conservation projects, including the ISPRA Seagrass Coastal Restoration project, in which Fugro is mapping the entire coastline of Italy.
The two also collaborated in the recent COASTS project, which advances the integration of data and modelling of coastal processes and blue carbon ecosystems with pilots in Europe and the Maldives.
“This acquisition is a big step forward, enhancing our capabilities in the water market and allowing us to better serve our clients with satellite EO technology,” said Robert Hoddenbach, Fugro’s global director of climate and nature.
