Kalmar has finalized an agreement with long-standing customer DP World Southampton to supply an additional 14 hybrid straddle carriers for the British container terminal.
This order was recorded in Kalmar’s Q2 2024 order intake, with delivery expected in the second quarter of 2025.
DP World Southampton, located on the south coast of the United Kingdom, is a key port for many of the world’s leading container shipping companies. The terminal has been utilizing Kalmar straddle carriers since 2007, and with this latest order, the total number of Kalmar carriers at the site will increase to 82.
“Given our long-standing business relationship with Kalmar, we are delighted with the order of the latest batch of hybrid straddle carriers, which will continue to help boost productivity and optimise operational costs at our Southampton logistics hub,” stated Andrew Bowen, DP World in the UK COO.
DP World is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint by minimizing energy consumption across its facilities and investing in eco-friendly product designs. The hybrid straddle carriers play a crucial role in achieving these sustainability goals, as they significantly lower both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered models. Additionally, the hybrid units produce much less noise. The carriers used at the Southampton terminal are powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a biofuel made entirely from renewable resources.
