Chile’s Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI) plans to invest nearly US$15 million in upgrading its port equipment in 2025.

This investment aligns with the concessionaire’s strategy to reinforce its position as a multipurpose port terminal, expand into new markets, and grow its customer base.

During the first half of the year, ITI, which handled a total of 2.5 million tons of cargo in 2024, aims to introduce a second state-of-the-art mobile crane, the Konecranes ESP.10, along with the first batch of eight Kalmar container cranes.

ITI’s General Manager, Rodrigo Pommiez, stated: “We are focused on improving ITI’s competitiveness and productivity, for which this significant investment in equipment is essential. These actions align with a strategy of exploring new market opportunities, including incorporating other services that will enhance the port’s operational efficiency and offer our customers comprehensive logistics.”

According to company executives, these enhancements are expected to strengthen ITI’s operations and have a significant positive impact on the logistics chain connected to the port. Additionally, ITI is rolling out a 4G LTE network to improve data transmission efficiency, minimize errors in information capture, and enhance cargo traceability for customers, among other benefits.

“We expect these improvements we are implementing to drive regional economic growth and strengthen Iquique’s competitiveness as a key logistics hub in northern Chile,” added Pommiez.
