Danish maritime data analysis firm Sea-Intelligence has published the latest Global Liner Performance (GLP) report, presenting schedule reliability data through December 2024. This summary highlights the key global trends from the report, which covers performance metrics across 34 trade lanes and over 60 carriers.

In December 2024, global schedule reliability declined by 0.9 percentage points month-over-month (M/M), settling at 53.8%. Throughout the year, schedule reliability fluctuated within a narrow range of 50% to 55%. On a year-over-year (Y/Y) basis, reliability in December was 3.0 percentage points lower.

According to the report, the average delay for late vessel arrivals improved, decreasing by 0.23 days M/M to 5.28 days, the lowest level since July 2024. Compared to December 2023, the average delay was down by 0.12 days.

Among the top-13 ocean carriers, Maersk achieved the highest schedule reliability in December, reaching 60.4%. Six carriers recorded reliability within the 50%-60% range, while the remaining six fell within a narrow 47%-50% range. Wan Hai had the lowest reliability at 47.9%. The gap between the most and least reliable carriers narrowed to less than 13 percentage points during the month.

Only four of the top-13 global carriers showed month-over-month improvements in schedule reliability, with ZIM leading the gains at 6.0 percentage points.

“On a Y/Y level, only six carriers recorded an improvement, while Evergreen was the only carrier with a double-digit decline,” noted Alan Murphy, CEO of Sea-Intelligence.
