RSGT Bangladesh, the first privately-owned container terminal in the country, is substantially upgrading its operational capabilities at Chittagong Port with an investment exceeding US$25 million in 14 advanced hybrid Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs).

These cranes, manufactured by GENMA-KALMAR in Taicang, China, feature cutting-edge battery-hybrid power technology, significantly reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered RTGs. They are also equipped with an array of safety, ergonomic, and intelligent operational features.

“The investment in these new RTGS represents a significant step in our mission to upgrade terminal operations at Chittagong Port, and in the Bangladeshi logistics supply chain,” pointed out RSGT Bangladesh CEO, Erwin Haaze.

In December 2023, RSGT Bangladesh signed a 22-year concession agreement with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) to operate the newly constructed terminal facility, marking the entry of the first foreign terminal operating company in Bangladesh.

The terminal, which received its inaugural vessel call in June 2024, has an initial annual container throughput capacity of 250,000 TEUs, with plans to scale up to 450,000 TEUs once fully outfitted.

“We are very pleased with the progress being made at the Chittagong facility, and with the CPA and the Bangladeshi maritime community. As the first private terminal in the country, we are proud to contribute to the modernization and efficiency of Bangladesh’s maritime and logistics infrastructure,“ mentioned Haaze.
