Cavotec announced the successful commissioning of a MoorMaster automated vacuum mooring system at APM Terminals MedPort Tangier in Morocco.

This innovative system significantly reduces vessel turnaround times at the terminal, enhancing productivity while also lowering fuel consumption.

APM Terminals MedPort Tangier, a key facility within the Tanger Med Port—ranked fourth on the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence’s list of the world’s most efficient ports—continues to optimize its operations through strategic investments.

The recent deployment of the MoorMaster system, part of the port’s ongoing expansion, reinforces its reputation as one of the world’s most advanced, efficient, and safest container terminals.

Initially installed along 400 meters of new quay wall during the terminal’s phase two expansion in 2023, the MoorMaster system was extended by June 2024 to cover an additional 400 meters as part of phase three.

Now comprising 45 units, the system can moor ships along an 800-meter quay segment, further improving operational efficiency and flexibility.

According to a statement, the MoorMaster system streamlines vessel mooring and release, minimizing idle time. Its active hydraulic technology stabilizes moored ships, boosting crane productivity and shortening average vessel call times.

Additionally, by reducing the need for tug assistance, the system cuts emissions during mooring by over 90%. The integration of MoorMaster technology is a key element in APM Terminals’ global decarbonization efforts.
