SAAM Terminals facilities in San Antonio, Antofagasta, San Vicente, Corral and Puerto Montt reduced their carbon footprint by 41% compared to 2021 by utilizing renewable energy for 100% of their electricity needs.

SAAM Terminals operates port terminals in San Antonio, Antofagasta, San Vicente and Corral and manages a logistics centre in Puerto Montt.

Through the use of renewable energy, SAAM Terminals has prevented the emission of 10,522 tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions from 2,290 average cars.

“An important part of our sustainability strategy is to move forward towards more eco-friendly operations. Year after year we strive to improve our processes: powering our operations with renewable energy certified with I-RECs is proof of that commitment,” stated Cristina Schmidt, SAAM Terminals’ VP of Sustainability and Communications.

I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificates) are an international mechanism used to promote and verify the use of renewable energy. These certificates are issued by the International REC Standard, an organization that establishes global standards for monitoring, issuing and trading REC certificates.

During 2023, SAAM Terminals’ operations were powered by energy from Enel’s Rapel hydroelectric power plant, one of Chile’s main hydroelectric plants. Inaugurated in 1968, it has been a mainstay in the supply of clean, renewable energy for more than five decades.
