The influx of grain and cereals from Ukraine to the Port of Valencia continues to surge. During the first half of 2024, the arrival of these products at the Valencian docks has increased by 123% compared to the same period in the previous year, more than doubling the traffic.

From January to June 2024, a total of 661,861 tonnes of grain and cereals from Ukraine arrived at the Port of Valencia, up from 296,795 tonnes in the first six months of 2023.

This is despite Ukraine, known as the “breadbasket of Europe,” being embroiled in a war due to the Russian invasion.

In addition, these figures for early 2024 confirm the recovery trend observed over the past year, following a significant drop in Ukrainian grain and cereal arrivals at the Port of Valencia after the war’s onset.

In 2022, the year the invasion began and the Russian naval blockade of Ukraine’s main ports occurred, only 241,000 tonnes of grain and cereals reached the Port of Valencia.

This amount has already been greatly surpassed in just the first half of 2024.

Furthermore, humanitarian corridors and alternative routes gradually facilitated the recovery of Ukraine’s exports, culminating in 772,276 tonnes of grain and cereals arriving at the Port of Valencia by December 2023.

With 661,861 tonnes already received in the first six months of 2024, it is expected that the year’s total will soon surpass 2023’s figures.

In the first half of 2023, Ukrainian grain exports to Valencia were concentrated in January, March, May, and June.

In 2024, however, every month has seen the arrival of Ukrainian grain at the Port of Valencia, with the highest peak in February at 181,000 tonnes, followed by May with 145,169 tonnes, and June with 123,500 tonnes.
